Leon van Leeuwenberg

From the program for Les Misérables in Duisburg, where he played Combeferre

Ended his classical vocal training in June 1994 in Rotterdam. He also studied acting and dance. Leon sang, among others, Christus in Franz Liszt's Via Crucis. In 1991 he went to America as a voice teacher. In addition to concerts in Europe, Leon could also be seen in various musical theatre roles. From ensemble roles in touring productions of Cyrano and Sweeney Todd, he played Bella's father as well as the Beast in Die Schöne und das Biest [not the Disney version] in Köln and, until January 1997, Kaiser Franz Joseph in Elisabeth at the Theater an der Wien.

He also played Amos in the 1998 Vienna production of Chicago.

I saw van Leeuwenberg in Les Mis--I know he was on that night, I recognised him in the ensemble--but it's really difficult to judge a performer based on Combeferre. Especially if you're spending most of the student scenes trying desperately to not hear/see what's happening onstage, because the Enjolras and Marius are so painfully bad.... So, I'm unable to really comment. Which makes one wonder why I bother mentioning it at all, doesn't it?
