Born in Essen, began piano at age 8 and made his debut at 13. He was (and is) entertainer, pianist, composer, and lyricist with his own band at first in Hamburg, then in all of Germany. After the Stage School of Music, Dance and Drama, he performed in Cats (Hamburg) and in a self-written Tom & Jerry Show, which at present is broadcast by ZDF, he appeared in Bernstein's Mass, was Frank'N'Furter in the Rocky Horror Show, Judas in Jesus Christ Superstar, Lucheni and Tod in Elisabeth, Che in Evita, and the original cast for the title role in the Buddy Holly Show in Hamburg.

In early 1999 Borchert played Valjean in Les Misérables in Duisburg, Germany. I saw him once as Leopold in Mozart, and I thought he was really good. It was a bit disappointing to get his understudy all of the other times I saw the show....
